Wrap up

There's nothing to really say about the debate that everybody else hasn't said. I'm just grateful that Biden didn't beat up on Sarah Palin. In front of her family and children, that would have been awful.

As for tomorrow:

I confess that a very big part of me is rooting for the House Republicans to come through again for us. While some of the add-ons are good ideas (more backstop for FDIC insurance, etc, etc), the fundamental program is terribly flawed, won't work, and will tie the next administration's hands. The most it could possibly do is give the economy a brief psychological rush -- and help save McBush's ass.

Better that the markets take their dive again. (Sh*t happens.) Let the players chill out over the weekend, and then come back Monday with a fresh outlook and a renewed sense of personal responsibility based on the realization that they're not going to get those big handouts after all.

Let's work on solutions after the election. It's only a month away.
