Let Hillary take on Palin
GlenWSmith on OpenLeft makes a cogent argument for NOT letting up on Sarah Palin. (His post also reminds me about why I really couldn't stand CNN's Bernard Shaw, but that's another story.) Read it.
I agree that we shouldn't let up, but I disagree about using Biden to do it. I'm guessing (hoping?) that Hillary will jump into the fray starting tomorrow.
Biden's too valuable to spend much of his time attacking his VP opponent, even though the conventional wisdom says that is his traditional role. If McCain had made a more serious pick, I'd agree with the conventional wisdom. But this Palin Pick isn't serious at all. It's best if Biden doesn't dignify the Sarah Palin stunt.
That goes double for Obama.
Obama and Biden can just keep hammering McCain for pulling this stunt, and leave it at that. Come up with a good snarky sentence or two, mention it, and move on to issues.
Hillary's the one to get down-and-dirty with Palin. Now that may seem sexist (and it probably is -- to us but not to the real audience). Not only can Hillary destroy Palin on points, but she can also keep reminding the ex-Hillary supporters that there is a huge difference between a [vice] president who happens to be a woman, and a woman who happens to be a [vice] president. Hillary can righteously and authentically say that Sarah Palin is an insult to woman candidacies.
Thirdly, the sexist media will eat it up. I'll bet a Hillary soundbite shows up in every evening news until election day.

Bob, I think you are underestimating the stupidity of the American people. It seems that the Obama campaign, and several liberal bloggers and commentators, have bought into the strategy of avoiding Sarah Palin and dismissing her.
IT HAS FAILED!
Sarah Palin was the star of the GOP Convention and because of her, McCain/Palin now leads Obama/Biden 50% to 46%!
The Obama campaign should have immediately put out ads exposing the fraud of Sarah Palin. (Remember the GOP had an ad out the day after Biden was nominated!)
It may be too late now that the GOP has got the media running scared. MSNBC is taking Olbermann off of future election coverage because of complaints from the McCain campaign. The media focused on the minor issues of Sarah Palin's daughter and other family issues instead of Palin's political record and her flip=flops. That's what the Obama campaign should focus on.
The election SHOULD be about McCain v. Obama but it has become Palin V. Obama.
Since people who do not read the liberal blogs do not know the truth about Sarah Palin, she is now more liked than Obama or McCain. Even women, including some Democratic women, love her.
I'm afraid the Democrats have already blown this election..
Jim,
Several times so far this season I have felt that the Dems have blown it. Up and down, up and down. I've been thinking about getting a prescription from my doctor.
That said, I agree with those say we'd only be validating their stunt and letting them control the discussion and framing if Obama and Biden spend more than a few minutes talking about her each day.
A few commertcials would be a good thing. Why not? But let Hillary take Sarah Palin on.
By the way, have you noticed how quickly and gleefully the media have fact-checked her? That's a good thing, too.
This is not to say I agree wholeheartedly with everything else the Obama-Biden campaign is doing.
Do NOT underestimate Palin. The Palin tactic is exactly what the Republicans needed this year to sway those 'on the fence' voters from voting Democratic.
Bob, Let me know what drugs your Dr. prescribes.. I think I'm going to need some "medicine" too before this is over :)
It's like a roller coaster, and I have motion sickness...
If that dingbat Alaska Hillybilly becomes VP (and President) I'm swimming to Cuba!
Screw the Democratic Party, I'm going to join the Socialist Party after this election! (My partner has just joined the Communist Party!, but at least the Socialist Party has some members left..)
If only Obama had picked Hillary in the first place - then McCain would not have selected the Sarahcuda...the Dems are toast.
